With the upcoming Big Bass splash, you will want to check weekly for my Lake Fork fishing report to keep you updated on what the bass are doing and lake conditions. August was a very strange month as we did not have much hot weather and had a lot of rain. The flood gates were open 2 weeks ago which for August is unheard of!! So check back weekly for my Lake Fork fishing report to see what changes the lake is going through. The lake is currently very full and the flood gates are closed. Surface temp has cooled of to the lower 80’s and most of the lake is clear. There is a lot of flooded vegetation if you know where to look. Bass are biting both deep and shallow. Drop shot has been good deep (21-24 ft) and the shallow bite has been good in the vegetation. There are a lot of small schools of bait fish shallow and so are the bass. My best method of catching these bass have been a Texas rigged black trick worm using a 1/8 ox bullet weight, or a split shot rig using a black 4 inch magnum finesse worm worked through the vegetation. Now for the crappie fisherman, the crappie bite has been good! I am catching crappie in my brush piles at 20-24 feet on jigs and minnows. Best color jig has been blue ice or chartreuse pepper on a red jig head. Fall crappie fishing gets real good this month and will go thru November before they start heading deeper for the winter.
