A new year has started for bass and crappie fishing on Lake Fork. Its mid January and we finally got some rain around the lake last night. We are now about 2 feet below normal and the surface temperature is 51 degrees. But this has not stopped the bass and crappie fishing from being fairly good for this time of the year. I had a bass trip on Wed afternoon and my clients caught 9 in 5 hours. You might say that is not very good but for cold water fishing it is a very good afternoon. Size ranged form 4 – 8 lbs and all were caught on a black/blue jig in 10 foot of water of less. I normally find that this time of the year through mid Feb are the toughest parts of the year to catch bass because of the cold and windy conditions we normally have. This is the time of year I throw a jig, and a suspending jerk bait on main lake points. This is where the big females will start showing up first before making their move to the areas of spawn. As for the crappie now catching them in deeper water and 30 feet has been a productive depth. Minnows are always good but the feathered jig in black and chartreuse 1/8 oz is also catching good messes of crappie. We still have another month to go of you keep your first 25 you catch. Look for crappie on the deeper flats in the mouth of Little Caney or just go to the lower end of the lake and look for the boats. The tournament season begins in Feb so book your dates asap as the dates go fast. I have been guiding on Lake Fork for 20 years and can help you find bass or crappie and improve your bass and crappie fishing by showing you a few places you may not know about. So call or text 940-902-3855 for my open dates or stop by the dallas boat show the last week of Jan and book your trip. #bassandcrappiefishing #lakeforkbassfishingguides #lakeforktrophybass #lakeforkcrappiefishingguides
